As I posted the post on Little Bug, I realized today is the 23rd anniversary of my Dad's death. After 23 years, we as a family have Saint-ified my Dad as we remember him. Was he a godly man? Absolutely!!!!!! His faith was very strong. He trusted the Lord in all things. He was a kind man. He was a loving man. Did he have faults? Of course. But......... like I said, over the years we have Saintifed the man, so here are some of my most precious memories of my DAD.
I would accompany Dad on business errands. He always had his hand on my shoulders, actually neck. He would direct me in which way to go with his hand on my neck. Daddy agonized as he made decisions. He would talk out loud to himself about whatever issue he was trying to resolve. He loved to listen to music as he worked. He listened to all genre of music from the classics to country western. Just prior to my coming to the US for college, dad took me to the park in down town Goiania and taught me how to balance a check book. Dad was a mathematician and loved numbers. His students could never get him to round up their grades. If they got an 8.563 (Brazilian system of grading was on a scale of 1 to 10.), that is what grade they got. On our wedding day, Jerry brought a sermonette. While Jerry spoke about heaven and earth, my Dad looked up toward heaven and then down to earth following Jerry's words. Then it came Dad's turn to pray. He did so for the same amount of time as Jerry had spoken, while...... Jay and I kneeled for those 8 agonizing minutes. Dad loved to tinker with all kinds of things. I love the photo of my Dad working on something in my home's entry way with his grandchildren around him. He would be as proud of our "Little Bug" as he was of all his other family members.
Daddy, I love you and miss you.

Wonderful two months
These have been very interesting and wonderful couple of months! School has wound down and this most challenging class is moving on to the next grade level. It was so sweet to see them on Friday writing notes about each other being their friend and how much they liked each other and their teacher. I can tell they will miss their Kinder class. I'm thankful for the opportunity to be a part of their little lives.
On the family side of things, the most amazing thing has happened to us as a family. God has given us, my Mom's, first GREAT Grandbaby, our first grandchild for my generation and first child for the next generation. We are elated with "Lady Bug's" arrival. She is sooooo very precious.

A. Helen
Helen Cowsert
When A. Esther died, Martha asked those who wanted to write something about her to do so. I did. It was so nice to write about my blood aunt. Today, once again, I write about my blood aunt. As an MK, we have many aunts - the missionary family - and yet at times, we do not know our own relatives very well. And yet, A. Helen has always been in the mix. My earliest memories of us with A. Helen is during Easter the year we were on furlough and Elena was born. We are all dressed up in beautiful Easter dresses, wearing bonnets and purses. The next memory is of going to Mary Poppins movie with her. What a treat!
The thing that impresses me the most about my Aunt Helen, is that she opened her home to me, then to each one of my other siblings as we came to the US for college. We never had to worry about where to go to when the dorms closed. Where would we spend Thanksgiving? What would we do for Christmas break? When we needed a car to go see friends over the weekend, she lent us her car to travel in. Remember - those were the days without cell phones. She did not know how we were until we got back. I remember that she loved to cook Lasagna. She not only opened her home up to us, but she also opened it to our friends.
Having teens in her house was not an easy feat for a single lady. She had been used to having things her way in the places she liked them. Unfortunately, I did move some things on her desk, which she immediately put back in their places.
We came over and did laundry, watched TV, slept in, ate her food…….. And learned to watch and enjoy the Lawrence Welch Show. To this day I still sing:
"Good night, sleep tight and pleasant dreams to youHere's a wish and a prayer that every dream comes trueAnd now 'til we meet againAdios, au revior, auf weidersehen.....Good Night!"
How do you say thanks to a person who did so much for you when you were all alone? I have told A. Helen thank you so many times for all she did for us, but I know these words were not enough to really thank her for her investment in my life and that of my siblings. You know, as a teacher day after day, she invested in the lives of her students. She continues investing thru her scholarship which will go on for years to come. What a blessing she has been in my life and in countless others.
I love you and am so thankful for you.
Good night A. Helen, until we meet again!

Confidence
These past days, I have been thinking about:
. the economy, our investments have been reduced by 40%
. retirement, I will probably have to work til I'm in my mid 70's
. the health of our loved ones - several of our elders in not doing well
. my health is not the best - need to get cholesterol/triglycerides under control
. my husband's jobs are a little scarce - no work, no money
but........ My Wonderful and Wise Husband reminded me ...............
God is in Control and our hope, trust and confidence are in HIM - The ROCK -
We shall not be moved!
It is well with my soul!

My heart is heavy with health issues of family. I pray that God will intervene in each one and grant desires, recovery and health for my family. Thank you God for those who care for these loved ones, and bless each one.

Toronto, Ontario, Canada
What a fabulous area of the world. Jay and I had such a wonderful time going to the CN Tower. Boy, looking around from the very top at all the city and being able to look across to the US was just fascinating. Have you ever stood on a glass floor at 1,400+ ft? Wow, that is a frightening experience....., but we did it.
Casa Loma is spectacular. It is a castle in the middle of Toronto. It was built with steam pipes to warm the room, an elevator - Otis 1 since it was the first in Canada, extraordinary gardens, which we saw covered with snow, exquisite bedrooms and guestrooms, enormous dinning room and library. Amazing!
ROM the Royal Ontario Museum is magnificent! It houses displays from all over the world. The featured displays were: Diamonds, Dinosaurs, Ukraine - Ancient Civilization, Egypt, Canada and it's native people and many other countries.
St. Lawrence Market with stores representing countries from around the world. We ate at the Portuguese restaurant.
Hockey Hall of Fame - I'm sorry that I cannot name the players who were celebrated, but we did get to take a picture with the Stanley Cup. It is awesome!
Well, Niagara Falls is beautiful. With the snow and ice caps it is breathtaking. We are so thankful that we were able to go see this natural beauty. We got to sit in a restaurant looking straight into the Horseshoe Falls. Magnificent! (I must confess that for who has seen the Foz do Iguaçu, there is no comparison. Sorry America and Canada!)
We are so thankful for the opportunity to get to know yet another country!

Busy Week
Next week, I have a rather different week planned: Tuesday, I might have my evaluation, if my AP does not have to have back surgery. Please pray for her. She is in a great amount of pain and in real need of this surgery. Wednesday, I will help 4th grade writing teachers with a writing camp to assist the 4th graders in getting ready for the TAKS writing test. Thursday, we will have Math family night and I will help out in the Make and Take area. This is a fun night because the families get to do a rotation tru several activities and as a family learn about math and how to assist their children. Each person gets a ticket and during the night, numbers are selected and wonderful gifts given. Friday will be a travel day for me as I join Jay in Toronto, Ca. It will be freezing, (High of 30F with low of 18F while I'm there. Jay will get to experience 9F.) but we plan on doing as much sight seeing as possible. We hope to get to Niagara Falls. Brrrrrrrr!
